Join us on January 16th from 2-5pm to prep our campus food garden for the Spring semester. We will be building a herbal spiral, planting veggies, and weeding along the garden path. The Student Dietetic and Food Science Association Sustainability Committee will also be holding a wooly pocket workday which will focus on putting up a new irrigation system and pockets in the campus garden. There is lots to do! Remember to dress comfortably, bring your garden gloves and some water. The garden is located near the northeast part of campus between the softball and baseball fields. We look forward to seeing you there!

11am-1pm – SDFSA Sustainable Food BBQ – enjoy delicious and healthy BBQ selections and ask CSUN food science students about any dietary and nutrition questions you may have. At Matador Square.

12:30pm-2pm – “Fresh” – documentary film screening featuring urban farmer and food activist Joel Salatin and showcasing practical alternatives to agribusiness and industrial farming. Q&A and discussion following the screening – in the USU Theatre (upstairs in the Northridge Center).

CSUN is proud to participate in the ninth annual Campus Sustainability Day (CSD) program on Wednesday, October 26. Sponsored by AASHE (the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education), Colleges and Universities across the country will showcase sustainability issues, initiatives, and programs in on-campus programs as well as webcasts and networked events. CSUN’s CSD theme this year is trash.

Our CSD program includes a screening of the film, “Bag It,” at 11am that focuses on plastic waste, followed by Q&A with a panel of experts on the issue.

Our speaker session, starting at 12:30pm, will feature CSUN’s Dr. Michael Sullivan talking about hazardous waste in his Toxic Trash presentation and Andy Shrader, discussing plastic waste and what you can do about it in his “Take Action” segment.

Light refreshments will be served between sessions.

The event takes place in the USU Northridge Center from 11am – 1:45pm. For more information, please see the flyer.

Join us in seeking solutions for a sustainable future, and check out http://www.aashe.org/campus-sustainability-day for more information about AASHE and the nationwide event.

See you there!
COME JOIN US FOR A WEEKEND OF FUN AND CELEBRATION
WHAT: New World F.E.S.T. is a large, eco-friendly event
WHEN: October 7,8, and 9
WHERE: Santa Monica beaches
INFO: www.thenewworldfest.com
And what could be a better, more important cause for celebration than our “new world”. Let’s make it the best world possible, and that means working together toward a “smart future”. Working together toward a smart future makes sense. We share this planet. How we live impacts us all. We are one community.

The New World F.E.S.T is about gathering as a community, and having ourselves a good time while we hang out and maybe learn a thing or two … together. Rarely has the process of learning been this much fun. That’s a good thing.

At the FEST, we’ve got 150 exhibits featuring some of the best and most innovative eco-friendly products and services you’ll see. We’ve also got 6 stages of live performance – music, guest speakers, panel discussions, live product demo’s, chef demos, an eco-theatre screening award-winning films and documentaries, a very cool Sustainable Art exhibition, art workshops, live street art, plus a Spiritual Oasis, yoga classes, healthy food and beverage, robots, futuristic eco-science, and lots for families and kids – including music, puppetry, dinosaur digs, and a petting zoo.
