EAT REAL, AMERICA!
As part of the nationwide Eat Real, America! campaign, CSUN’s Institute for Sustainability in association with the SDFSA (Student Dietetic and Food Science Association) and the Marilyn Magaram Center for Food Science, Nutrition & Dietetics is sponsoring an Eat Real! Food Day event on campus on Monday, October 24.
A project of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), Food Day is a nationwide event focused on America’s food supply. Recognizing the alarming levels of obesity and diet related illnesses in the U.S., CSPI’s objective for Food is nothing less than a food supply revolution in America. The event will showcase the connection between food and dietary consumption choices, health, and food sustainability with the following activities:
10am-11am – Campus Edible Food Walking Tour with Dr. Erica Wohldman – see and learn about the local edibles on campus, including the food garden and other edible plants at CSUN. Meet at Matador Square at 10am.
11am-1pm – SDFSA Sustainable Food BBQ – enjoy delicious and healthy BBQ selections and ask CSUN food science students about any dietary and nutrition questions you may have. At Matador Square.
12:30pm-2pm – “Fresh” – documentary film screening featuring urban farmer and food activist Joel Salatin and showcasing practical alternatives to agribusiness and industrial farming. Q&A and discussion following the screening – in the USU Theatre (upstairs in the Northridge Center).
